National Unity Platform President Mr.Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert alias Bobi Wine has said that he has been denied access to see his party supporters who have been incarcerated in Kitalya Maximum Prison for over three years now.
Bobi Wine said that when he tried to find out as to why he was blocked from accessing the prisoners this time round since he and other people have always visited,he was told that they are orders from above because there are government officials who are expected to visit the prisoners on the same day.
Kyagulanyi alleges that the state has been reaching out to these prisoners and their family members requesting them to accept the crimes that they are being tried of in quest for their freedom.
“This comes after many days that have passed when the government officials have attempted to reach out to the families of political prisoners and the prisoners urging them to accept the said offenses with promises of freeing them from incarceration,”Kyagulanyi said .
He also added that “We have always advised them not to accept any offence because they committed no crime whatsoever.”
This comes after the new junior Minister of youth and children affairs Hon.Balam Baruhagara Atyeenyi tasked the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Hon.Joel Ssenyonyi to present the list of missing persons and political prisoners indicating that he had pledged President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to pardon all the NUP supporters.
For the record last month NUP leaders and members of parliament went to court to stand sureties of the prisoners since court has always declined their bail request because some of them appear not to have substantial sureties .
