Residents of Namukora Town Council in Kitgum district today woke up to a rude shock after the body of a dead man was found lying naked on the street.
The Namukora Urban Council III Chairperson Kenneth Nyero Nyokcek confirms the incident identifying the deceased as Morris Kitega Kaguta a resident of Wigweng whose body was discovered on Wednesday morning.
According to Nyokcek, the body that visibly had no injuries was discovered by members of the public who were heading to their normal business chores within the town council before alerting authorities.
Nyokcek says they are yet to establish the circumstances under which Kaguta died although they suspect his demise could have been linked to a brawl between the deceased and his peers during an illegal disco that was organized on Tuesday night after a monthly market held yesterday.
The Kitgum Resident District Commissioner William Komakech regrets the incident although he blames the organizers of the disco dance for organizing the event in contravention of the stipulated curfew restrictions imposed in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Komakech says the police have been directed to get statements from the organizers of the disco dance for staging an illegal event and to help get leads into who might have assaulted the deceased.
The Namukora police OC Station Richard Oledro says the body of the deceased has been taken to Namukora Health Centre IV hospital mortuary for postmortem.
Oledro says no arrests have been made although investigations to establish the real cause of the death and a manhunt for the possible perpetrators have been launched.
