(URN) Three people died on the spot in an accident along Mbarara-Ibanda Road on Thursday evening.
The accident occurred at Akachunchu-Kagongi Trading Centre involving a double cabin vehicle registration number UAY 304 A belonging to MTN and a red Bajaj boxer registration number UEF 548L.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Region police spokesperson identifies the deceased as Chris Abigaba, who was riding the Boda boda, Agustus Ahimbisibwe 17 and Ameria Abaho 6, both passenger and residents of Kagongi village in Ibanda district.
He identifies the driver of the double cabin who is currently on the run as Eddy Inavurunguti, 37, a resident of Mbarara City. Sgt. James Bamwesigye, the Officer in Charge of Rubindi Police station blames the accident on over-speeding from both the double cabin driver and Boda boda rider.
Andrew Asiimwe, an eyewitness, says that the vehicle that was heading to Mbarara from Ibanda hit the Boda boda head-on killing the trio on the spot. The deceased bodies are lying at Mbarara Regional Referral hospital mortuary pending post-mortem. Police towed the motor vehicle and vehicle to Rubindi Police station pending inspection.
