Luwero Police are holding four suspects for their alleged involvement in the aggravated robbery and killing a motorcyclist. The suspects are Godfrey Kafuluma, Ibrah Ssesanga, Christopher Ssenyondo and Sharif Mubiru, all from Nansana East zone in Nansana Municipality in Wakiso district.
They are accused of killing Denis Lukyamuzi, a resident of Galuwero zone in Luwero town council. Isah Ssemogerere, the Savannah Region Police Spokesperson explains that the suspects and others still at large attacked Lukyamuzi at Kyegombwa village on his way back home around 10 pm on Monday this week.
He says that the accused persons hit Lukyamuzi with a hammer on the head and robbed his motorcycle registration number UFL 890D. According to Ssemogerere, Lukyamuzi was rushed to Mulago National Referral hospital where he succumbed to the injuries on Tuesday.
He says that police arrested the four suspects after receiving information on their alleged involvement in the robbery and transferred them to Luwero Central Police Station to face murder charges. Robert Ssekyanzi, the Chairperson of Luweero Town Council Boda Boda Riders Association, says that the deceased hired the motorcycle from a Boda boda rider at Mukama Afaayo stage but was attacked on his way back home.
Ssekyanzi says that this is the fifth motorcycle to be stolen in Luwero in one month. He asks the police to investigate the people whom the suspects are working with to execute the attacks. It is believed that motorcyclists stolen in Luwero and Nakaseke districts end up in Kampala city.
Luwero district ranked fifth in the 2020 Annual Crime report when it came to motorcycle robberies after registering 17 cases. Mbarara topped the list with 28 cases. Luwero district also ranked six in homicide after registering 73 cases in the year.
