It is confirmed, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has been endorsed by Central Executive Committee of NRM as the party flag bearer for the speaker of parliament.
In a written statement by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament accepted the nomination saying;
“With humility and a contrite heart I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to our party Leader, His Excellency General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni; and the distinguished Men and Women of the Central Executive Committee of the NRM Party for their vote of confidence.
Among also thanked the NRM Mps for extending their support to her for the position.
In the same vein I also extend my appreciation to the Members of Parliament of the NRM Caucus for their unwavering support and indeed, the entire Parliament of Uganda fraternity for their overwhelming support thus far. It is my earnest prayer that we conclude this process with nobility and decorum as befitting tribute to our beloved departed leader, the Rt. Hon. Jacob L’okori Oulanyah.” she said.
The current deputy speaker however said it was still a bitter sweet moment for the parliament after the loss of speaker Jacob L’okori Oulanyah
May the Almighty God grant us the courage and fortitude to overcome this trying moment in this history of our Parliament.

Among now awaits final approval from the NRM caucus which is set to convene on Thursday .
The Bukedea woman MP expressed her interest in the position of Speaker, on Tuesday 22nd March 2022.
Sources inside the NRM CEC say the decision to have Anita Among as speaker was a safe one for President Museveni since the transition would be easier for the institution of parliament.
