Residents of Namavundu Village in Kasangati town council Wakiso district have decried the big number of shrines which compromises the security of their area.

In a statement released by police, Luke Owoyesigyire the deputy spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan said that the incident is linked to ritual practices according to the statements so far recorded.
Police arrested John Mubatizi who was guarding St. Mary’s Magdalene Church of Uganda as a suspected link to the murder.
Salongo Mawejje the defense secretary of Uganda N’eddagala Lyayo, an umbrella that governs traditional healers in the Wakiso district said that every traditional healer coming to the village has to be introduced to the LC1 chairman and then to the umbrella organization.
He also said that Namavundu village has got 20 registered shrines but several witch doctors just operate illegally inside their sitting rooms, which threatens the security of their village.
Mawejje wants the Chairman LC1 and Police to conduct an operation in the village to weed out illegal witch doctors.
Mawejje also expressed concern over residents like one only known as Namukwaya whom Mawejje accuses of bringing witch doctors from different places like Kamuli, Bukamansi, Masaka, and other places who spend days in the area working on people without going through the right procedure.
Mawejje says that witch-doctoring with first registering puts the security of the area at stake and may have caused the incident that happened in their village on Sunday.
A resident Jackson Katongole said that there are several shrines in the village and some of them have stayed for over 10 years in the village. He also said that there are several shrines within residents’ homes which poses a threat to the security of the village.
Jessy Lubega said that most of the people posing as witch doctors are young men and women who just making money but know nothing about rituals and traditional healing.
Lubega urged the LC1 to cnduct an operation to weed out all the masqueraders who may be linked to the incident that just happened.
Louis Akabwayi the LC1 chairman of Namavundu Village said that every person who comes to the village saying that he or she is working as a witch doctor has to undergo vetting upon presenting all the substantial documents from where they come from.
