Former Rubaga South MP and entertainer Kato Lubwama is set to be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mutundwe Kampala this evening.
According to the program the deceased is to be buried at 4pm later today and the Prime Minister of Uganda, Robinah Nabbanja is expected to be the guest of honor, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulani aka Bobi Wine is expected to represent the opposition leadership together with colleagues from the music, arts and drama fraternity.
During one of the vigil session Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko who was close friends with the late revealed that before his demise Lubwama had insisted that he be buried a week after his death.
The deceased succumbed to complications resulting from his long battle with heart complications at Stana Medical Centre in Bunamwaya. He was 53 years old at the time of his death.
According to the initial funeral program which came out shortly after the Late Kato Lubwama’s passing on Wednesday last week, Lubwama’s body was supposed to be brought to the National Theatre on Monday June 12, from which it was to be taken for a funeral service at St Matia Mulumba Church.
It however emerged, that the church had decided not to join in Lubwama’s funeral on account of his involvement in witchcraft.
Speaking during the public body viewing ceremony at the National Theatre yesterday, one of Lubwama’s children, Brenda Lubwama blasted the church for their hypocritical actions.
“If I do not speak about this, I will remain pained. We are angry, we are not happy at all with the actions of the Catholic Church. We have all been baptized and are not witch doctors. We had a religious upbringing. I am very shocked that they refused to pray for him. It is very shameful, it is hypocrisy,” she said.
The decision of the Catholic Church to deny Lubwama a proper send-off has been condemned through the past week by his friends and family members.
