Naminayi Thomas 16 is the pupil who lost his life in a fatal accident at Kafu Manafwa-Mbale Road Manafwa District which involved M/V Reg. No UBJ 994J Tata lorry leaving 117 others injured.
The Lorry M/V Reg No UBJ 994J which belongs to the Bukusu Corporative Enterprise Ltd is alleged that its driver Godmas Mamai while at Kafu along Manafwa -Mbale Road carrying pupils of Nakhupa Primary School who was overspeeding lost control hence overturning and killing one pupil on the spot and injuring 117 others.
Naminayi’s body has been taken to the same hospital for a postmortem as the injured pupils have been rushed to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.
Police say that preliminary investigations have started and that the driver is on the run.
“The Lorry has been towed to Manafwa Police Station for Inspection. Investigations show that the accident was caused by reckless speeding.
Trucks are not meant to carry people or passengers, ” said Mr Kananura Micheal Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson.
The police have also cautioned the public not to use trucks for transportation because they are not meant to carry passengers.
