The announcement was made by the Ubos executive director, Mr Chris Mukiza during a press conference at their head offices in Kampala this afternoon.
“These enumerators will be charged with geo-mapping of households and enumeration area boundaries and as well carry out the final exercise on the census night. The recruitment will be done at village level and please make sure that when we advertise for the positions, you can apply,” Mr Mukiza said.
“But we have done 90.3 per cent of the mapping exercise and the number of staff needed to recruit will depend on the number of enumeration areas that come out,” he added.
Mr Mukiza also said that the enumerators will be paid about Shs400, 000 for the period that they will work. This means that a total of Shs48bn will be spent on paying the staff during the exercise.
Ubos also said that they have put aside money to procure over 100, 000 biometric machines from Uganda and other international agencies to help facilitate the capturing of people’s details.
Ubos also noted concerns of some people who are using social media to circulate disturbing messages against the census 2024 which is a national programme.
“We urge our media ambassadors to be both on the outlook and always challenge such bloggers using the right information disseminated by the bureau,” Mr Didacus Okoth, head of communications at Ubos said.
