The Right Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has said that the people who are fighting her are those ones who occupied her office before and assured them that she will win.
Speaker Among who was addressing her Bukedea home people said that her enemies won’t manage her because she has backing from President Museveni to serve the people of Uganda.
“It is the right time we chase away those old women and let us develop. They want to cause problems as they develop their own homes in Kamuli. They should accept to be where they are,” Speaker Among said as if referring to the former speaker of parliament Ms Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
During the exhibition of parliament where top documents of the legislature expenditure were poured into the public, there were whispers from the corridor that some of the leaders who had left the house used their people inside to access the documents.
Speaker Among has on several occasions hinted on the former leaders as her biggest obstacles in developing and running Parliamentary business.
“It’s time we respectfully transition from the leadership of our predecessors and focus on our own development and progress. While they have contributed their part, let us embrace the future and move forward. We won’t let anyone undermine our efforts, especially as they build their own homes in Kamuli and towns,” Speaker Among expressed, hinting at her predecessors’ roles”
During the same ceremony Speaker Among also rallied the people of Bukedea District and the wider Teso sub-region to register as members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party. At Apopong Primary School in Bukedea District, Speaker Among emphasized the party’s longstanding credibility and the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The registration exercise, part of a nationwide effort, commenced on Wednesday, March 13th, and will conclude on Sunday, March 17th, 2024. The initiative aims to enlist new supporters aged 16 and above while updating the particulars of existing members.
President Museveni, who also serves as the NRM National Chairman, recently launched the registration at the party’s headquarters in Kampala. During the launch, he underscored the importance of scrutinizing potential members to ensure their alignment with NRM principles of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, socio-economic transformation, and democracy.
Addressing the gathering at Apopong Primary School, Speaker Among highlighted President Museveni’s transformative leadership, which has steered Uganda towards progress and economic stability over the past four decades. She praised the President’s role in positioning Uganda as a regional and global economic powerhouse.
The registration process, overseen by NRM officials, aims for transparency and discipline, according to the party’s first National Vice Chairman, Al Hajj Moses Kigongo. He emphasized the importance of updating the party register accurately to maintain credibility.
Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General, affirmed the party’s commitment to President Museveni’s legacy and urged members to offer themselves for the party’s cause in future elections. He cautioned against subversive activities and emphasized loyalty to the party chairman.
The update and registration process, supervised by the NRM Electoral Commission Chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi, involves displaying the register in all 72,000 villages and convening village barazas for engagement on March 17th, 2024.
The event at Apopong Primary School saw the participation of senior party members from Bukedea and NRM district chairpersons, underscoring the significance of the registration drive.
