The High court in Fort Portal has ordered Christopher Kibanzanga Taban, the former Bughendera County Parliamentary candidate in Bundibugyo district to vacate his commercial house in Kisanga A cell in Kasese town within seven days for alleged failure to pay court costs.
A notice issued by T/a Straight Auctioneers and Court Bailiff on Tuesday shows that the property was auctioned to recover part of the judgment debt Kibazanga owes his political rival, Moses Acrobert Kiiiza.
Godfrey Kasuka, an official from T/a Straight Auctioneers and Court Bailiff told URN that they have already got a buyer for the building, adding that they will attach more properties until they recover Shillings 300 million the court awarded to Kiiiza.
The commercial house is valued at Shillings 85million.
Trouble for Kibanzanga stems from his election petition challenging the victory of his rival, Moses Acrobert Kiiiza who defeated him in the general elections in January this year. Kibanzanga petitioned Fortportal Court to nullify Acrobert’s victory for alleged electoral malpractice.
However, the court threw out the petition citing the lack of sufficient proof by the applicant to substantiate his claims. Kiiza’s legal team submitted a bill of Shillings 300 Million, which was approved by the court.
The former minister has since failed to pay the court costs citing the lack of resources. In May this year, Kibazanga’s supporters raised over Shillings 13 million for this cause. Attempts to speak to Kibanzanga were futile as he didn’t pick up repeated calls from our report.
