AGAGO. Walter Komakech,46, a renowned photographer in Gulu City has perished in a fatal motorcycle accident as he traveled to cover a wedding event in Agago District.
According to the Police, the fatal crash took place at 18:56p.m at Wang-Col village in Acholi Pii in Pader along the Kilak Corner-Patongo road stretch.
The deceased, riding a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registration number UEE 613M with a passenger, was reportedly from Gulu City headed to Adilang in Agago to cover a wedding function.
He got involved in a head-on collision with another red TVS motorcycle registration number UEN 169G, ridden by one Oloya Denis, also carrying a passenger.
“The two motorcycles met [on a] head-on collision in a place that has pot holes and the rider of UEE 613M (Komakech) died on the spot,” Mr Andrew Opio, the Aswa River region community liaison officer said.
He added that Lawoko Julius, 39, a resident of Lacor in Gulu City and passenger on the deceased’ motorcycle survived the accident with minor injuries.
The police officer said Oloya also sustained minor injuries while his passenger, Amony Christine, was admitted at Acholi Pii Army Hospital with yet unspecified problems.
SP Opio said relatives of the deceased used a Royal Service funeral van to transfer the body to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem. Police officers from the traffic department in Pader visited the accident scene and retrieved the two motorcycles that are now parked at Kilak Corner police station pending inspection.
“More investigations on the cause of the accident have kicked off,” SP Opio said.
Komakech is the proprietor of KKW photo studio near Post Office in Bar Dege/Laroo Division, reportedly met his fate in a head-on collision with another motorcycle Saturday evening.
